Before anything you need a place to marry and the possibilities are endless if you know where to look. What type of wedding are you looking for? What kind of wedding are you picturing within your mind? A beach wedding is the most popular choice for many and Ibiza has got a good selection of beach venues. Other options are venues on cliff tops with excellent views across the sea or countryside. See fantastic sunsets across the calm seas or across the exotic landscape of Ibiza. A new edition to our website is Cardamom Beach Venue which is located right on the beach and with Cardamom Events wedding planning team behind this, you cant go wrong. Another great option is San Miguel Balansat fish restaurant right on the main beach of San Miguel. Another option which is located on a small beach in Es Cana is Jacaranda Lounge.

There are a number of good venues on the Island of Ibiza and all have something unique and some of these venues are more than just a wedding venue. A lot of country hotels on the Island work as a wedding venue so they can accommodate as well. Take a look at Can Gall

Another good option is a top class restaurant like Casa Colonial who are well prepared for a good wedding.

Depending what kind of atmosphere you want for your wedding in Ibiza like Sunsets, Beach, Country side, mountain top, private villa, hotel or even on a boat, Ibiza wedding venues could be anywhere on the Island that you want.Ibiza wedding venues there are a number one things to think about when you have your wedding on Ibiza. Choose carefully and do pay a visit to the venue before your special day, check out the atmosphere to see if its right for you.

A number of Ibiza wedding venues are dedicated to weddings and weddings only, they are well organized and know the business. Consider well established restaurants who will give you the run of the whole restaurant just for your wedding. Restaurants will convert into Ibiza wedding venues quite easyly. Some hotels and private villas on the Island will also hold your wedding. Hotels are an excellent venue because of all the facilities within the hotel and if a private villa then you have complete privacy. A perfect Ibiza wedding venues for your blessing ceremony could be in our list below.

Ibiza weddings vintage style 2012

Yes the 2012 season is only just around the corner, already couples are organising and making preparations for a summer 2012 wedding on the sunny Ibiza Isle. Already many of my ‘brides to be’ have written detailing the style of wedding cake they would like, and it seems predominately to be ‘vintage style’ – which is absolutely gorgeous its romantic and almost ‘shabby chic’. Roses lend themselves to the vintage style perfectly as do soft pale dusky rose colours. I am so enjoying coming up with ideas and looking at ideas to make this style work to its best advantage.

Vintage style Ibiza weddings

Antique birdcages filled with fresh flowers for table centre pieces , lace throws and tablecloths plus candles make all for a romantic vintage feel. Of course the main decorative centrepiece should always be the wedding cake, therefore it is very important for me to get the exact styling right to match the couples ideas. Many have mood boards, which they send to me so that I can get the feel for the ‘theme colours and ideas of the day’. I love this work!!!!

When I get to meet ‘my’ couples I always find it so much easier to get this right as it is good for both myself and the wedding couple, although so much of my work is by email alone, so don’t worry if you cannot get to visit before your big day !!! We can work it out together.

This year is a little more difficult for couples to come and visit as once again we are without a direct flight to Ibiza during the winter months. There are of course options to travel here but it makes for a long tedious journey, besides the higher cost. Let us all hope that the petition to re-install direct flights has some impact on the new government!!!

I have recently been to the International cake exhibition, which is held at the NEC in Birmingham, this exhibition is essential for me for my business, as it allows me to see new products, follow trends, speak with suppliers etc. This year’s exhibition was the largest ever, with a record number of people visiting. Wedding cakes are seriously big business and the competition is fierce. Although here on Ibiza I have lots of competition regarding cakes, none are making anything like my style, my cakes are always bespoke, and made with love, with handmade edible decoration as opposed to ‘brought in’. When you look at websites you will see lots of pictures – but not always made by the advertiser J – My site shows ONLY my work. Take a look at some of my most recent blogs – with pictures included: Ibiza Cakes Blog

Enjoy planning you very special day and maybe you will have a Vintage style Ibiza weddings

According to stats the sit down meal remains the most expensive part, taking up 57% of costs.

Ibiza has become one of the humber 1 places in Europe to tie the knot, therefore takes a good percentage of this latest statistic. Formentera has also been a hot destination to tie the knot and both Ibiza and Formentera look to have a lar percentage of weddings already booked for the 2012 season.

Since the beginning of the month of November it is impossible to travel to Mallorca and return the same day by boat. With the end of the summer season, the fast ferries have been taken out of service and one of the lines, Baleària, only has one crossing, which is during the night and usually departs at 3.00 am, with the return journey at 10.00 in the morning. On the other hand, Acciona Trasmediterránea has cancelled all its previous sailings on Fridays and Saturdays and it is only on Sundays that one of its ferries leaves at 19.00 in the afternoon. Normally during December extra crossings are arranged but, so far, no concrete information is available for this year.

Meanwhile figures published last week by the Airport Authority showed the upward trend had continued into October and in the first ten months of the year 386,700 more passengers had arrived or departed from the Ibiza airport terminal than during the whole of 2010, which was a record in itself. So far this year 5,409,500 passengers have passed through the airport, whereas the figure at the end of December last year was 5,040,800.

As from the beginning of December Ibiza will not have any international flights to and from the island, due to the cancellation of schedules to Great Britain, Italy and Germany. This is mainly due to the PP Conservative party having eliminated the subsidies which used to be paid by the Consell to the low-cost airlines which operated during the winter.

Xico Tarrès, ex-Consell President and leader of the opposition PSOE party, was reported to have said last week that this will be very beneficial to Mallorca, which has 27 connections with European cities in eight different countries each week. He went on to say that 40 per cent of travellers who have to make a stop-over choose to stay where they have landed, as a further transfer always increases the price of tickets.

Tobacco companies in Spain have been changing the paper used to make cigarettes for the new ‘self extinguishing’ kind. This is to adapt to European laws which have been set in place to reduce the accidental fires caused by cigarette ends that have not been completely put out, thus helping in the prevention of forest fires often caused by careless drivers throwing stubs from moving cars. Incidentally, any form of rubbish thrown from vehicles, such as paper and tissues, can also land you with a fine of €200. From now on cigarettes will have an invisible band around the bottom, near the filter, which will slowly extinguish automatically, with the European Commission demanding that all cigarettes sold after the 17th of November have this new band. Trials have worked successfully in the United States, Canada and Australia and although the band does not affect the taste, some smokers in Spain have been infuriated by the fact the cigarettes keep going out and need relighting.

At the moment the estancos (State-controlled tobacco shops) are still selling a mix of old stock and new but after the middle of this month they will have to withdraw those with old style filters. However, the tobacco industry states clearly that this is not a substitution for people to be responsible for their own actions when smoking or extinguishing their cigarettes. The new bands on the cigarettes are not fireproof and therefore should not be left smouldering with the user believing they will go out immediately, even though eventually they will.

Meanwhile the latest Government figures have revealed the sale of tobacco has fallen by around 15 per cent since the introduction of the new smoking laws at the beginning of the year.

Local residents, headed by well-known local businessman Martin Makepeace, have started a petition to try and get winter flights to various European destinations re-instated. Two weeks ago the Island Council announced it would not be renewing its agreement with the low-cost airline Ryanair, who received a subsidy from the Balearic Government in return for offering international flights to a handful of European destinations.

The group held a meeting with the Councillor for Tourism on the island, Carmen Ferrer, last week and hope to be heading to Mallorca in the near future to speak directly to the Balearic Government. The more signatures they have, the more bargaining power they possess, so please visit the below facebook page, and join the fight to get winter flights re-installed. It’s now down to you……..

Below is a copy of the letter which was presented to Councillor Ferrer on Friday.

Dear Ms Ferrer

We have started an online petition which now has over 1,600 signatures (in just 7 days) asking you to re-think your decision and strategy not to pay the previously agreed subsidy to Ryanair so they can operate international flights during the winter months.

We understand that in these economically difficult times it is a challenge to subsidise an airline to operate flights, but we believe you have a very simple decision to make on behalf of the island population.

Decision 1: Do business with Ryanair and we get several international flights per week from Italy, Germany and England bringing thousands of people in and out of the island and contributing substantial amounts to the local economy, stimulating the property market and promoting Ibiza as a winter tourist destination.

Decision 2: Shut the door to Ryanair and isolate Ibiza once again, seriously shaking the confidence of potential investors and those who want to visit family and friends or discover Ibiza as a winter destination. Most of these people say they are not prepared to travel via Barcelona or Mallorca etc at extra cost and time.

Ibiza is a world class brand and product and should be operated on a 12 month basis and we hope that the island government will try and find a way for the busy and prosperous summer months to cover some of the costs of the quieter, challenging winter months. International flights are a fundamental basis of our island economy and without these we cannot hope to compete with our neighbours and other destinations who are more than happy to do business with the low-cost carriers.

The good news is that we have spoken to Ryanair and the door remains open so we strongly urge you, as the government representing all the people of Ibiza, to speak to them again and help put Ibiza on the world map not just in the summer season but all year round.

Yours sincerely,

Martin Makepeace

To make your voice heard and join the thousands who are demanding direct winter flights, please

However, traditional airline passengers also showed a significant increase, up by 17.6 per cent last month and by 16 per cent during the first nine months of the year.
