Two large cruise liners visited the island last Saturday, with a total of 3,746 passengers on board. The first to arrive was the Costa Deliziosa, which was only launched last year and carried 2,260 tourists and a crew of 1,050. She arrived at 8.00 a.m. in the morning and sailed just before the second liner, the Grand Celebration, docked during the afternoon.
José Torres, Director of Ibicon, the major consignee which attends to all the necessities of the vessels while they are in port, including reservations and catering requirements, explained that on the 9th of May another large liner Grandeur of the Seas, which has capacity for more than 2,000 passengers, will be calling. He commented that this year 128 cruise ships bringing more than 140,000 passengers are expected to visit Ibiza, although the installations at Botafoc are capable of receiving up to 250 liners carrying 250,000 tourists each year.
