Local Police officers mounted an operation to detect “pirate” taxi drivers last weekend. They erected a control point in the Avenida 8 d’Agost between 6:20 and 8:00 in the morning to check on vehicles trying to collect party-goers leaving the Pachá Discotheque. Seven drivers were found to be plying for trade, without being in possession of a valid taxi licence. Of these seven, three were not residents in Spain and therefore their vehicles were impounded, with the owners forced to pay the fixed fine of €6,000 in order to retrieve them.
