As from the beginning of December Ibiza will not have any international flights to and from the island, due to the cancellation of schedules to Great Britain, Italy and Germany. This is mainly due to the PP Conservative party having eliminated the subsidies which used to be paid by the Consell to the low-cost airlines which operated during the winter.
Xico Tarrès, ex-Consell President and leader of the opposition PSOE party, was reported to have said last week that this will be very beneficial to Mallorca, which has 27 connections with European cities in eight different countries each week. He went on to say that 40 per cent of travellers who have to make a stop-over choose to stay where they have landed, as a further transfer always increases the price of tickets.
