The Tourism Foundation ran a campaign with Jet2.com airline during an eleven month period from May 2010 until February this year to promote holidays in Ibiza, which resulted in an increase of 7 per cent in passengers over the previous year. For 2011 the airline has announced their intention to fly from five British airports and offer a total of 150,000 seats, which represents an increase of 18 per cent. The publicity campaign was carried out online and also in specific media and on bus panels.
Meanwhile in other related news, the island began to enjoy the first fruits of the European Senior Plan with 1,500 Polish inhabitants expected to pass through the island from March. Pensioners from Poland are able to enjoy a week’s holiday in Ibiza for €393. This figure includes their flights, airport transfers and seven days in a three-star hotel. Promotions were carried out in Warsaw to offer these places to the elderly, out of season.
