More than ten years ago Baleària and Transmapi agreed to join forces on the route between Ibiza and Formentera, but as from the 1st June they are going their own ways. The decision is a result of an investigation instigated by the National Commission into possible unfair competition and price fixing. If either is found guilty, the fine could be as high as ten per cent of the annual turnover of the two entities. Travellers are liable to benefit from the rupture between the two companies, as there are now far more ferries each day. Previously there were 25 crossings daily, which have now increased to 39, a figure not normally seen until the middle of July and August. Circumstances have it that all three companies – the other is Mediterránea Pitiusa – will sail from Ibiza at exactly the same time: midday and 5.00 p.m. and 8.00 p.m. in the afternoon. On the return journey from Formentera they coincide only once, at 11.00 a.m. in the morning.
