Tourist spending was up by 12.2 per cent in October when compared to the same month in 2009. The Balearic Minister for Tourism, Joana Barcelo, said the strong finish to the season will help off-set the beginning, which was tough across the four islands. Overall tourist spend is up by 1 per cent over the course of the year, while 2.3 per cent more tourists visited the Balearics this year when compared to twelve months ago.
Unsurprisingly Mallorca topped the list with €526 million spent by tourists, with Ibiza in second (€96 million) and Menorca (€36 million), third.
