Three representatives of ‘Ibizabus’, the consortium of the three major public transport companies on the island met last week to prepare a petition to the Consell in the hope of increasing the price of tickets by between five and six per cent. They represent Autocares San Antonio, Voramar el Gaucho and HF Vilas and pointed out that prices have remained static for the past three years, but the cost of fuel has increased by about 25 per cent. Additionally during this time their wage bill has also increased.
On the subject of the transfer to the central underground bus station in the Cetis complex in Ibiza Town, the three remain adamant that this could cause the price of tickets to double, as they would have to pay up to €50 each time a bus uses the facilities. They would rather see a new bus station constructed at street level, which would be far more practical for the drivers and passengers, and cited the San Antonio terminal as an example of how it should run.
