More than 1.9 million passengers passed through the airport during the six months from January to June, an increase of 15.5 per cent on the previous year. This figure compares very favourably with that of Mallorca and Menorca, which both showed increases, but not as substantial, of 7.2 per cent and 3.8 per cent respectively. Both the home and the foreign markets have increased, national passengers by 14 per cent and international by 17.2 per cent. There was also an increase of 11.6 per cent in the amount of movement of aeroplanes, which rose to 23,487 over the six month period.
In related news, last week also saw the Balearic Government give the green-light to the sale of a 49 per cent stake in Aena, the state-owned airport authorities.
